Sharing themes

A theme file holds a site’s whole look: the theme, the designs of blocks, pages, layouts and menus, and the site settings. It does not hold your content, your domains or your images. You find the buttons for it on the design overview, in the folded section Theme gallery, import and export near the bottom.

Try another starter theme

Section titled “Try another starter theme”
  1. Click Design in the sidebar and open Theme gallery, import and export.
  2. Click Theme gallery.
  3. Pick a theme. The buttons on top show only Professional, Creative or Personal themes; each card shows a preview and what it brings.
  4. Leave Replace designs this space already has off to only add designs you have not made yet, or switch it on to replace yours.
  5. Click Apply.

The twelve built-in themes:

CreativeBold, Studio, Playful, Noir
PersonalEditorial, Journal, Blossom, Terminal

Everything arrives as drafts. Look the designs over, then publish them from the overview. If you do not like it, undo a change in its designer or restore a version (see Publishing and preview links).

Export a theme

  1. Click Design in the sidebar and open Theme gallery, import and export.
  2. Click Export theme and choose Published designs (what visitors see) or Drafts, as they are now.

A .json file downloads, named after the space. Custom code from the site settings is only included if you may edit custom code.

Import a theme

You need the permission Edit designs.

  1. Click Design in the sidebar, open Theme gallery, import and export and click Import theme.
  2. Under Theme file, choose a .json file exported from any Manablox space.
  3. The dialog lists every design in the file and what happens to it: New, Replaces or Skipped.
  4. Replace designs this space already has is on by default. Switch it off to keep your own designs where both exist.
  5. Untick any design you do not want.
  6. Click Import as drafts, then Done.

Good to know:

  • Block and page designs find the matching block and content types by name, even when the other space built them separately. Designs for types this space does not have are skipped.
  • Images and uploaded fonts are not in the file. If the designs use some that this space does not have, the dialog tells you; upload them again and pick them in the designers.
  • Nothing is live until you publish.
