Messages, read-only and suspended

If your installation is hosted for you, the provider can show you messages in the admin and, for example when an invoice is open, put the installation or one space into a restricted mode. Nobody can change these from inside the admin, administrators included; they come from the provider.

Banners appear in a strip right below the top bar. Their colour says how urgent they are: information, a warning (yellow) or something urgent (red). The most urgent come first.

  • A banner may end with Learn more, which opens the provider’s page in a new tab.
  • A banner with an x on the right can be closed. It stays closed for your account, on every browser and device you sign in on.
  • Some banners are meant for administrators only, so colleagues may see fewer of them than you.

When the provider has set them, a ? button in the top bar opens a menu with links to documentation, support, billing and upgrade pages. The billing link is shown to administrators only.

A read-only installation or space shows a yellow notice below the top bar: “This instance is read-only.” or “This space is read-only.”, usually followed by the reason.

When you try to save, the admin says “This is read-only at the moment - changes are not saved.” Nothing you already made is lost. When the provider lifts it, everything works again; reload the page if the notice is still showing.

A read-only space only affects that space: other spaces work normally.

A suspended installation shows a single page after you sign in, for everyone, administrators included. It says why, and shows the provider’s help links.

While it is suspended, the website and the API are unavailable: visitors see a neutral “Temporarily unavailable” page. Nothing is deleted.

Contact your provider through the links on the page. Once they lift the suspension, click Check again (or just come back to the tab) and the admin opens as usual. Sign out signs you out.
